Beijing time on May 17th news, according to foreign media reports, Intel's roadmap for 7 nm and 5 nm process technology research and development has been finalized.
In April this year, Intel just launched Ivy Bridge chip with 22nm process. But now the company has begun to look forward to the new progress of the process technology in the future. In fact, Intel's roadmap for process development of 10nm, 7nm and 5nm has been finalized. At the same time, the company currently plans to deploy 14 nm process production lines in factories in the United States and Ireland.
The 14nm process is still in the research and development stage, but its application in production will wait until the launch of Broadwell in about 2014. Perhaps Broadwell is Haswell's 14nm die size reduction +SoC version. Haswell itself will be based on the same 22nm process technology as Ivy Bridge, which is a part of Intel's' tick-tock' development model.
XbitLabs posted the Intel roadmap and quoted the words of Intel CEO Paul Otellini. Otellini reminded investors that the company's research and development has been very in-depth and oriented to the next decade. If everything goes according to plan, Intel will launch a 10nm process chip in 2015, and the research on 7nm technology will start later.
In order to maintain a dominant position in the desktop processor industry, it is not enough to lead in process technology. It is also necessary to open up the mobile market and develop powerful and effective chips.
